ATL Hall Enacts New Electoral Reform to Allow Presidential Aspirants to Choose Their Running Mates

An electoral reform which allows JCRC presidential aspirants to hand-pick their own running mates has been enacted by the Atlantic Hall taking effect from 2014 JCRC elections.

In an interview with choicism.com, the current Hall president, Lukuman Lamin Mezaan said the proposed reform was referred to the Constitutional and Judicial Board for consideration, and the committee came out with the reform.

He maintained that, the committee‘s decision was in accordance with Article ( 8), section (8), clause “B” sub-section (2) of the Atlantic Hall constitution which permits for adjustments when the need arises, and states that, “The Constitutional and Judicial Board shall from time to time review and amend the constitution when the need arises”.

The president continued that, the committee came up with such amendment after recognising the need for effective hall governance and to create peaceful atmosphere within which promotion of academic and co-curricular activities of the hall will flourish.

He further stated that, the decision was also to allow the ATL constitution to be in consistent with the SRC constitution which allows candidates to run the presidency with their own running mates.

He however hinted that the decision poses no threat to the authorities of this noble institution but rather is in conformity with the observed protocols in the school and the country at large.
