He made this statement during a seminar organized by the Faculty of Arts Students Association (FASA) dubbed “Life After School”.

Speaking on the topic, “The World of Work for The Arts Students”, Dr. Saboro said that, the university does not train students for profession but it trains students to brand and package themselves very well because employees in the job market are in search of personal brand.

“The University does not train you with book knowledge only but we train you to brand and package yourselves very well because most employers are in search of personal brand”, he stated.

Dr. Saboro again advised students to pursue dreams they have been wired for and not what their parent choose for them.
According to the lecturer most students tend to read programmes in the university because their parents asked them to and not because they are well equipped to offer it. They therefore go through the programmes without any passion.

“The basic underlying principle in choosing a career is passion and what you have been wired to do but unfortunately for most of us, we come into the university pursuing dreams that our parent chose for us”, he said.

He further stated that, it is of relevance that students pursue programs of their passion. According to him students should assess themselves very well to see their strength and weakness before choosing a career or programme.

The seminar also saw Dr. Wincharles Coker, a lecturer at the department of Communications Studies who spoke on the topic “Pursuing Academic Life Home or Abroad”, taking students through the various scholarships abroad and home after first degree and how to apply it.

The seminar was chaired by the Dean of the Faculty, Professor J. B. A. Afful, and also saw in attendance the FASA President, Mr. Kamal Deen, executives of the association and other members of the faculty.
