Two Former Students of UCC Represent Ghana at the World Poetry Awards

Two great sons of the University of Cape Coast are set to pick up awards at the 3rd World Poetry International Festival to be held in Canada in April this year.

The two, Oswald George Okaitei, a former Entertainment Chairman of Atlantic Hall and Michael Kwaku Somuah a Casfordian who were picked after a rigorous selection procedure will be awarded from the Empowered Poet Category. In all, three Ghanaians have been selected for the poetry awards.

The world Poetry Awards is based on humanitarian efforts to make the world a better place and are awarded to youth who show wonderful commitment for peace and respect for others.

The award winners will be featured as guests on the World Poetry Cafe Radio Show on CFRO, read at other World Poetry events and present to other community events.

Though the World Poetry Stage is a platform to market Ghana, the two are yet to receive support from the government and have therefore called on the public to come to their aid in order that they could embark on the trip to Canada.

The festival is scheduled to take place from the 4th – 30th April, 2013 on the theme “Inspiring Peace”.
