UCC SRC holds 53rd Week Celebration

The University of Cape Coast (UCC) Students’ Representative Council (SRC) has held its 53rd SRC Week Celebration.

The event, which started on Wednesday,April 6, was on the theme,”2016 and Beyond, Educating and Ensuring a Peaceful Election Experience in Ghana,The Role of the Youth.”

Delivering a keynote address, the Founder of Groupe Nduom, Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom, noted that Ghanaians choose good times and bad times depending upon the president or member of parliament (MP) they vote for during elections.

“When someone becomes your MP or president, they are there for four years and unless something really bad or disastrous happens, those elected will be there in bad times and good times. So when you vote, you make a choice, you choose good times or bad times depending on who you cast your vote for. That’s why I keep reminding young men and women like yourself and Ghanaians always that you get what you vote for,” Dr.Nduom, aged 63, told the students at a seminar held at the Adehye Hall forecourt last Saturday.

To avoid violence in the upcoming November polls and beyond,he said it was important that political parties leaders and candidates were held accountable for the violence acts committed by their supporters.

He said the law enforcement agencies should prosecute”everyone found to engage in violent acts without fear or favour”.

Dr.Nduom, clad in all white dress, called on the Electoral Commission(EC) to use the database of the National Identification Authority(NIA) to compile voters’ register to prevent election violence.

He reminded the students, which included the SRC president-elect, Mr.Dennis Apofo Larbi, who represented the SRC President,Mr.Francis Arthur at the function, that the only agency in Ghana given the mandate to determine the nationality or otherwise of a person was the NIA.

Early on Friday,a concert of music was organised at the Main Library forecourt, featuring Okomfour Kwaadee, Kofi Kinaata and some homegrown student rappers such as Sowah P, Winston,Dizzle, among others, thrilled the tens of thousands of students with variety of songs and raps.

On Sunday, the Week-long celebration was climaxed with a Gospel concert, which was held at the SRC hostel.
