NUGS Society & Welfare Secretary-Elect, Promises Disability Friendly Tenure

The just elected NUGS Secretary for Societies and Welfare Richard Bosomtwi has expressed his commitment to spearhead an all inclusive tenure to ensure students with disability at all levels of education are not left out of the association.

He told Choicism.com that ‘the affairs has a responsibility of championing the welfare needs of Ghanaian students. In spite of the numerous task of the Secretariat, one that permeate the heart is the welfare of people living with disability (PWD) in the various institutions of learning.’

Richard who is a student of the University of Education Winneba – Kumasi Campus says he takes inspiration from the Sustainable Development Goals. The goals advocate for person with disabilities in relation to education, growth and employment, inequality, accessibility of human settlements, as well as data collection.

“Although, the word “disability” is not cited directly in all goals, the goals are indeed relevant to ensure the inclusion and development of persons with disabilities.” Richard emphasised.

He believes potentials of pupils and students with disability are not tapped adequately for the development of the association and calls leadership of the association and its members not to forsake the welfare of all students.

The elected students are to be sworn in on  December 6, 2019.
