The Students’ Representative Council (SRC) of the University of Cape Coast (UCC) has in its bid to improve health system delivery to its students, instituted a health policy which will enable students to attend the University Hospital for free.
The policy which commences on Monday, October 31, 2016 is primarily concerned with curbing situations where students visit the University Hospital but due to financial constraints cannot access health care.
According a statement released by the SRC Health Chairman, Mr. Yaw Okyere Marfo, the Council led by the President, Mr. Dennis Appiah Larbi-Ampofo, together with the Dean of Students, Professor Kwaow Edjah, presented a cheque to the University Health Service on Friday, October 28, 2016 to serve as a base fund for the policy.
Following the Memoranda of Understanding (MoU) signed between the SRC and the Directorate of the University Health Service, students will be able to access health care for free and the receipts will be later sent by the hospital to the council for reimbursement.
In the view of the fact that the hope of the policy is to bring health care delivery to every student irrespective of their financial background, the only requirement for students to access this policy is to take their National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) card and Students’ Identification card anytime they visit the University hospital.
Mr. Okyere Marfo assured all students, both graduates and undergraduates, that the SRC Health Committee will continue to commit itself to the vision and plans of the Executive Council to solve the health issues of its students.
