The Pro Vice Chancellor of University of Cape Coast (UCC), Professor George K.T Oduro has called on Ghanaians to embrace peace and eschew violence as the country inches closer to the December 7 polls.
According to him, there is the need for all Ghanaians to ensure that any form of illicit behavior likely to threaten the peace of the country is exposed and quashed.
Professor Oduro made the call in an interview with the press at a Peace Concert organized by the Air Force Regimental Band of the University Junior High School.
He said peace is a valuable gift that must not be taken for granted adding that if the country is thrown apart, mending it will be difficult hence the need to be critical and protect the freedom enjoyed in the country.
According to the Pro Vice Chancellor considering recent tensions that have erupted at certain parts of the country due to political party activities, it is important for Ghanaians to strengthen the peace campaign across the country.
Professor Oduro again charged all political actors to, as a matter of priority, preach the peace message to Ghanaians at all times and not only when the country is at the brink of elections.
He said peace must be a daily message.
The Central Regional Director of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), Ofori Boateng speaking at the ceremony noted that, the electoral process can only be credible and peaceful if there is a collaborative effort between all stakeholders in the electioneering process.
He said Ghanaians must recognize the electoral rules governing the election and abide by them.
Ofori Boateng called on the gathering to carry the peace message to their communities and educate them on the dangers associated with electoral violence in order to whip up their conscience to be peace bearers before, during and after the elections.
The Peace Concert hosted Wesley Girls’ Senior High School and Mfantsipim Senior High School regimental bands treated the guests to beautiful patriotic and peace songs.
