Prempeh College has emerged winners of this year’s (2017) National Science & Maths Quiz, after a keenly contested finals held at the National Theatre in Accra.
The winners came first with 53 points, beating their closest contender St. Thomas Aquinas SHS who had 51 points at the end of the contest.
Last year’s winners, Adisadel College failed to defend the title by placing third at this year’s competition with 31 points.
Prempeh College gets GHȻ40,000, a trophy, books and some packages from the sponsors of the competition while St. Thomas Aquinas SHS and Adisadel College receive GHȻ30,000 and GHȻ20,000 respectively and some packages from the sponsors as well.
The winners, Prempeh College beat Mfantsipim School and Mawuli School to qualify for the grand finale while St. Thomas Aquinas SHS beat Presbyterian Boys’ SHS and Kumasi High School in the semi-finals.
Adisadel College also made their way to the finals after beating Ghana National College and University Practice SHS.
Prempeh College is winning the competition for the fourth time after winning in the years 1994, 1996 and 2015.
This year’s competition has seen a great development as it trended on social media from the preliminary stages till the finals and has had a number of supports from old students of the various schools and some cooperate organizations.
The aim of the National Science & Maths Quiz is to promote the study of the Science and Mathematics.
