IPR Inaugurates UCC Students’ Chapter

The Institute of Public Relations (IPR), Ghana, has on Friday, 23rd February, 2018, inaugurated a student chapter with the Communication Students’ Association (COMSA) of the University of Cape Coast (UCC).

According a Council Member, Mr. Robert Nana Mensah, the institute is the umbrella body for Public Relations practitioners and therefore aims at enhancing professionalism in the field of Public Relations. 

“Simply put, we are to enhance professionalism in the field of Public Relations, and for that matter ensure the ethics and good performance as far as our members are concerned,” he said. 

Speaking on requirements for being a member of the Institute, the Executive Secretary of IPR, Mr. Charles Adjei-Tetteh indicated that membership is not limited to only students in the field of Communication.

He added that students who wish to join need to complete an application form with two passport-sized photographs and a current curriculum vitae (CV) then submit to the secretariat of IPR.

Mr. Adjei-Tetteh also said, as a student-member, you are required to pay an amount of GHc50.00 for yearly subscription, and upon completing your tertiary education, you write to the secretariat of IPR to enable you become an associate member. 

For membership benefits, the Executive Secretary said that there are many opportunities for members of the institute as they are exposed to a pool of professionals who would help the students in training for professionalism.

The inauguration witnessed the swearing in of the first appointed executives to man the IPR UCC chapter. 

The Co-ordinator for IPR Students’ chapters, Mr. Kenneth Awuku, revealed that the institute has seven chapters with some tertiary institutions in Ghana, which are; Ghana institute of Journalism (GIJ), Central University College (CUC), Christian Service University College – Kumasi, University of Professional Studies – Accra (UPSA), African University College of Communications (AUCC), Methodist University College, Ghana (MUCG) and now the  University of Cape Coast. 

The Head of Communication Studies Department, Dr. Eric Opoku Mensah expressed his gratitude to IPR Leadership and the executive board of (COMSA), UCC for making sure UCC becomes part of the Institute.

“I am excited about the team from IPR, and I think that it is a great opportunity being given to you to usher yourselves into this big professional arena to gain experience,” he said.

Dr. Eric Opoku Mensah further encouraged all students to make use of this great opportunity.

The Institute of Public Relations (IPR), Ghana, which is the sole professional body for Public Relations practitioners in Ghana, was established in 1972 as Public Relations Association of Ghana (PRAG) and was transformed to Institute of Public Relations (IPR) in 1991.
