Final year law student of the University of Cape Coast(UCC) and TV3 broadcast journalist Spencer Kwabena Boateng Mensah has won the Best News Reporting-electronic Award and Tourism & Culture Award at the Central Regional maiden Ghana Journalists (GJA) Awards.
The awards held on Friday in Cape Coast was on the theme “The Economic Transformation of the Central Region: Media’s Stake in Attracting Investors.”; it honoured journalists and media practitioners working in the region with focus on 2018.
Spencer brought to campus glory for his works: Journey to the West; Disability Life vrs Disability Act(episode 1 & 2) and Honouring our Heroes; Spotlight on Dr Nkrumah of Ghana & Chairman Mao of China.
He is one of less than a handful young journalists working without fear or favour; a leading voice for accessibility, social inclusion, education and employment of persons with disability in Ghana.
In 2018, Spencer was honoured by UCC SRC with an Inspirational Award alongside some national figures including Samira Bawumia, 2nd Lady of the Republic of Ghana for their contributions to building the nation.
The 27 year old holds a Diploma in Journalism & Media Studies from the Institute of Commercial Management – UK, Undergraduate Degree in B.A (Philosophy & Religion), and Masters’ Degree in M.A (Communications Studies) both from UCC, several international certificates.
His limitless rich experience in reporting on Disability, Education, Sports, Entertainment, Tourism etc from Ghana, Europe and Asia plus his academic exposure makes the University and Media General proud of him.
UCC’s ATL FM also won the Community Development Media Organisation and it’s morning show host Mary Ama Bawa bagged the Fisheries Reporting Award.
