Prof Atta Mills Memorial Library to be Affiliated to UCC

The President of the Republic of Ghana, His Excellency, John Dramani Mahama has laid a foundation stone for the construction of the Professor Atta Mills Memorial Research Library which would be affiliated to the University of Cape Coast in Cape Coast.

The construction of the Library was part of activities to commemorate the first anniversary celebration of the demise of the former President. The state-of-the-art library when completed would immortalize the late former President, Prof. John Evans Atta Mills. It would also serve as an International Center for researchers in the country and abroad.

Speaking at the stone-laying ceremony, President Dramani Mahama noted that the Research Centre would encourage research in governance, legal system, taxation and will embody the collective heritage of Late President Mills who was an astute academician. He indicated that the museum component of the library would also be stocked with a collection of artifacts that tell the story of the life of the late President who was an astute politician and an academician par excellence.

The Vice Chancellor, Prof. D. D. Kuupole who also spoke at the function noted that the university was highly honoured to be part of the historical presidential library which was in memory of the late president. Prof. Kuupole also paid glowing tribute to the late president for contributing immensely towards the construction of the Clinical and Teaching Centre, the Diagnostic Centre, Cafeteria and other structures for the School of Medical Sciences.

He finally gave the assurance that the university would collaborate with the management of the Research Library to raise it to higher standards that would complement the tourist attractions in the Central Region.
