School of Business in the University of Cape Coast donated assorted items worth about GHC3, 000 to Padre Pio Rehabilitation Centre for leprosy and childcare at Elmina on valentine’s day.
The Chairperson of the facility Sister Monica received the items on behalf of the centre and appealed for government support
The Padre Pio Rehabilitation Centre for leprosy and childcare at Elmina is therefore calling on the government for funds to run the facility
The centre largely depends on donations and supports from groups and individuals during festive seasons to feed the inmates
The Padre Pio Rehabilitation Centre was established in 1981 at Ahotorkrom in the central region
It is a privately run centre of Christian hospitality for the marginalised in the society
The centre currently supports needy children and people living with leprosy
The 30 capacity St. Clare Leprosy Division of the centre accommodates 16 inmates due to inadequate funds
The division houses inmates of ages up to 103 from nearby countries and across Ghana
Their challenges include lack of beds and foodstuffs
The Elizabeth Special Needs Day Care division of the facility also accommodates 12 pupils with 63 reporting on daily bases from nearby villages
50 children and aged are on special
