In a bold and visionary move to elevate the standards of student leadership, Lauren Baaba Annan, the Secretary of Superannuation (GUSSS) Hall, organized the first-ever “Secretaries in Training” program on Saturday, 12th July 2025, at the University of Cape Coast.
Themed “Pen, Power & Purpose: Equipping the Next Generation of Secretaries,” the event brought together both current and aspiring secretaries across various student leadership structures, aiming to sharpen their skills, build confidence, and redefine the secretarial office as a space of excellence, influence, and integrity.

Participants benefited from a series of engaging and practical sessions including:
1. The Use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in modern secretarial work
2. Cloud Storage Solutions for efficient data management
3. Public Speaking Techniques for confident representation
4. Letter Writing for formal correspondence to higher offices
5. Minute Writing for accurate documentation and reporting
The highlight of the event was an inspiring keynote address delivered by Master Valis Boateng Howe, Secretary-Elect of GRASAG-UCC, who emphasized the importance of purpose-driven service in leadership and encouraged participants to embrace the power of the pen as a tool for transformation.

“This program was not just about writing and record-keeping,” Lauren Baaba Annan noted. “It was about raising a generation of secretaries who understand the weight of their words and the impact of their office.”
The “Secretaries in Training” program stands as a landmark initiative in student capacity building and is expected to leave a lasting impact on secretarial leadership at UCC and beyond.
