Papa Ray Wins National NUGS Press and Information Secretary

PhotoRaymond Ayilu, one of the two UCC contestants in this year’s controversial National NUGS election which was held on Thursday, 11th October, 2013 at the University of Education, Winneba, clinched the position of Press Information Secretary.

Raymond Ayilu, known in student front as Papa Ray, was the 2012/2013 Association of Economics Students (A.E.S) president and 2012/2013 UCC House of Parliament Minority Leader.

However, Florence Brenyah, 2011/2013 Adehye Hall President and 2012/2013 SRC Chief Justice who vied for the position of National NUGS Women’s Commissioner lost to one Patience Annankrah.

The elections were feared to be fraught with contempt to a court case challenging the eligibility of one of the candidates, Albert Kwabena  Dwumfour.

A student from Zenith College filed a suit at the High Court on October 3, 2013 claiming that Mr. Dwumfour is not qualified to contest for the position of NUGS President and has prayed the court to disqualify him. Hearing of the case has been adjourned to Monday, October, 14, 2013.

However, NUGS on Tuesday October, 8, 2013 beat all conventional notions and sent invitation letters to member institutions to attend an emergency Congress on Thursday, to elect new officers.

Papa Ray victory comes on the wake of last year’s congress that was hosted by KNUST, Kumasi which saw Daasebre, a formal Valco Hall President won the position of International Relations Secretary.

Meanwhile, Sammy Binfo-Dankwa won this year’s presidential slot while a Pearl Dontoh clinched the Coordinating Secretary.

Choicism.com sends big congratulatory message to Raymond Ayilu, known as Papa Ray for holding high the flag of UCC, the University of Choice and also wishing Florence Brenyah better luck next time.
