PHOTOS: UCC Parliament Presents Trophy to Vice Chancellor

The leadership of the University of Cape Coast (UCC) House of Parliament (HP) has presented a trophy it won at this year’s Commonwealth Debate to Vice Chancellor, Prof. D.D. Kuupole.

The debate,organised by the Parliament of Ghana on March 14, was on the theme, “Should Ghana have a New Electoral Roll for the 2016 Elections.”

Participating universities were UCC, University of Ghana (UG), Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology(KNUST),University of Professional Studies (UPSA), the University for Development Studies(UDS) and the University of Energy and Natural  (UENR).

The majority leader,Hon.Paul Addah and the Minority leader,Hon.Awosika Tunde, represented the university at the debate.

After the debate,which Team UCC argued in favour of the motion, UG won Gold,whilst UCC took away silver and KNUST had bronze for placing third position.

Welcoming the leadership of the UCC HP in his office, Prof. Kuupole lauded the House for the high sense of discipline, adding that,” I have been following the activities of UCC Parliament, though I have not witnessed any of your sittings,but I must commend you for not causing any trouble either in the university or at your sittings.”

He called on members of the House, which included House Speaker Rt.Hon Emmanuel Acheampong, to be mindful of the common goal,unity of purpose,the institution and the nation.

Prof. Kuupole lauded the members of the House for the hardwork and urged them to use the UCC HP to promote peace and unity on campus and beyond.

He noted that he would, one day, visit the House during one of its sittings.

In attandance at the brief but colourful ceremony were the Registrar,Mr. John Nyan; Director of Finance,Mrs.Elizabeth Obesse; House patron,Prof. S.Y Mensah;Dean of Students,Prof. Kwaow Edjah;Minority and Majority leaders,Messrs Enoch Lelarbi and Enoch Tawiah Plange;House PRO, Mr.Enoch Acheampong;Hon.Barack Dodoo,and Hon. Yahaya Toffic,both leading members of the House.
