Population and Health Students’ Association (PHOSA), under the Faculty of Social Science on Wednesday, March, 5, 2014, organized a free health screening as part of activities to mark their annual week celebration at the UCC House of Parliament.
Participants had the opportunity to know their blood group, blood glucose, Body Mass Index (BMI) weight and height, coupled with counseling services and condom demonstrations.
Speaking to choicism.com, the president of PHOSA, Elorm Kwasi Adawudu said that the motive behind the exercise was to educate people about the need to be health conscious and also engage in safe sex practice, maintaining that, “pregnancy must be by choice not by chance.”
He also disclosed that a similar health screening exercise was organized in neighboring villages such as Yamoransa, all in an effort to educate not only students but also the neighboring villages.
The week-long celebration is on the theme, “Achieving MDG 4&5; Everyone’s’ Business”.
On Thursday,March, 6, there would be an outreach programme at Yamoransa on maternal health.
This will be followed by a seminar on Friday, March,7 at Sasakawa on the theme, “After School What Next”, with Mr. Kobina Esia-Donkoh, a lecturer at the Department of Population and Health as a speaker. He would speak on the topic, “Excelling in the Job Market in the Area of Population and Health.
He will be followed by Mrs. Christiana Offei Ansah, Adehye Hall warden and Head of Department of VOTEC, who will also speak on the topic, “Time Management for Effective Living.”
The seminar will be chaired by Dr. Kumi Kyeremeh, Head of Department, Population and Health.
