SRC Cautions ECG

Choicism.com has intercepted a letter written by the SRC of the University of Cape Coast directed to the Central Regional Headquarters of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), cautioning the company to provide a reliable rescheduling time table time for the institution or else incur the wrath of the students.

A letter signed by the Ag SRC president, Francis Kwabena Arthur further cautioned that failure by the ECG to meet the demands of the SRC will result in a massive demonstration against the company.

Below is the full content of the letter;
                                                                                      Student Representative Council
                                                                                         University of Cape Coast
                                                                                         Cape Coast

The Manager
Electricity Company of Ghana.
Central Regional Head office
Cape Coast.

Dear Sir,
PROVIDE US WITH EFFECTIVE RESCHEDULING TIME TABLE ON POWER OUTAGES

The Student Representative Council (SRC) of the University of Cape Coast (UCC) has noted with great concern,the increasing rate at which the institution experiences power outages which is patently obvious violation of the ECG’s time table for Power distribution to the university.

The seemingly gross violation of the scheduling/rescheduling iron-clad agreement between the institution and ECG is having an irreparable damage to the institution,and hampers effective planning of the institution’s programme of activities.

It may interest you to know that last semester,students had a lot of challenges with this unprogrammed power outages.In a university where most of students’ activities from cooking,ironing,studies and effective research work are centered on power, it was highly unbearable when we could not have a sustained power for even 12 hours.

Students have been tolerant of these issues, believing things were going to get better.We are also fully aware of all the many pragmatic measures taken by the University’s Management to getting things right. Clearly,this was even contained in the Vice-Chancellor’s report at the last congregation when he ( Vice-Chancellor) made a passionate appeal to the Deputy Minister responsible for Education,in charge of Tertiary, as regards the same matter.

As a matter of urgency, we are therefore calling on the Management of the Central Region branch of Electricity Company of Ghana to within three days;

1) Furnish the institution with fresh and concrete schedule/reschedule time table to enable the institution to plan its programmes and activities effectively.

2) Fervently comply with that time table.

3) Meet with the university management for a better time schedule which shall suit both the Academic and residential sections of the university.

Failure to comply with this directive, the SRC warns, would result in a massive demonstration of the student body at the regional office for 24hours against this appalling and chilling services being rendered to the institution.We have never done this, so please do not give us the reason to do so.

The second semester academic schedule has just begun and we are calling on the high office of the company to act switfly to address this challenge before it degenerate to an alarming proportion.

In as much as we appreciate the affable and decent relationship that has existed between the institution and your company over the past years now, we appeal to management not to lose sight of this cordial relationship.

We hope that management would put their shoulders to the wheel and address this challenge immediately to foster the healthy relationship that has existed between the institution and ECG.

We pray this problem would not jeopardize this good relationship by incurring our displeasure.

We count on your usual cooperation.

Thank you.

Yours faithfully,
Signed…….
Francis Kwabena Arthur
