The Students’ Representative Council, SRC has launched the UCC@50 annual SRC week celebrations yesterday at FELT Auditorium 900 to a massive attendance by students.
The SRC week celebrations was launched on the theme “SRC @ 50: Celebrating the Journey, and its impacts on Tertiary Education and Social Change”. This year’s week celebration will start from the 25 of February to the 3rd of March, 2013.
Speaking at the launch, the SRC President, Mr. Enoch Boateng discussed the role and structure of the SRC and mentioned that, the SRC has stuck to its core mandate of representing students.
Narrating the successes of the council, he said “Since its establishment, the SRC of UCC has performed beyond expectations and touts itself as one of the best student councils in the country”.
“The SRC of UCC is the first in the history of Ghana to construct the largest student centered project which is the SRC Hostel that houses over 1000 students” Mr. Boateng added.
Mr. Mustapha Hamid, a lecturer and a one-time SRC President in his speech, entreated students to know all that goes around them.He advised the audience to broaden their horizons as obtaining first class honours was not all that was to education.
The event was patronised by the high authorities of the university including the Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Prof. John Nelson Buah, Prof. Owusu Ansa, a senior lecturer at the Chemistry department, Mr. Mustapha Hamid, a lecturer at the department of Religion and Human Values, the station manager of ATL FM and past presidents of the SRC.
The slogan for the week celebration is ‘3b3 y3 gargantuan’.
