UCC Opens Admission of WASSCE Candidates into First Degree Programmes for the 2014/2015 Academic Year

Applications are invited from suitably qualified persons for admission into undergraduate programmes of the University of Cape Coast for the 2014/2015 academic year.

Applicants are to buy scratch cards which will enable them to apply for programmes of their choice online.  The scratch cards are up for sale at the Centres listed below:

1.   SALE CENTRES 
(a)  Cashier’s Office, University of Cape Coast (Mode of payment – CASH)
(b)  Ghana Post Offices at the Regional Capitals – (Mode of payment – POSTAL ORDER)
(c)  University  of Cape Coast – Accra Office, Tesano – Accra (Mode of payment – through any networked branch of Ghana Commercial Bank, into GCB Kaneshie Industrial Area Branch – Account Number 1201130006903).  A copy of the payment-slip should be submitted to the Officer at the Accra Office for the Scratch Cards.
(d)  Kumasi Workers’ College, Kumasi (Mode of payment – CASH)
(e)  All Regional Branches of the Ghana Commercial Bank except Kumasi, Cape Coast and  Accra (Mode of payment – CASH

Post-SSSCE/WASSCE    –    GH¢140.00
Post-Diploma                   –     GH¢150.00
International Applicants    –    USD$120.00

International Applicants should visit the University website (www.ucc.edu.gh) and click on Admissions (International Applicants) for directions on how to access the application forms.

The deadlines for the sale of Application scratch cards and the submission of completed application forms are Thursday, 17th April, 2014 and Wednesday, 30th April, 2014 respectively.

2.         ONLINE APPLICATIONS

Online applicants should visit www.ucc.edu.gh then go to Admissions and click on Apply Online for further instructions.

All applicants will be given three (3) pre-paid envelopes, two of which are blank official envelopes and should be self-addressed by applicants.

All applicants are required to provide the following information at the back of the large EMS envelope: (a) application reference number  (b) full name (c) postal address (d) first choice programme and (e) application category which should be one of the following: SSSCE/WASSCE or Post-Diploma or OTHER (to be specified by applicant).

Applicants are advised to read application instructions as well as the contents of the admissions brochure very carefully before completing the online application form.  Applications on which APPLICATION REFERENCE NUMBERS are not indicated will not be processed.

3.         BASIC ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

A.  The Minimum Admission Requirement into the University of Cape Coast for WASSCE applicants is aggregate 36.  For SSSCE applicants, the minimum requirement is aggregate 24.

Candidates must have credit passes in six (6) subjects with overall aggregate of 36/24 at the WASSCE/SSSCE respectively. 

Three of the six subjects must be core subjects: English Language, Mathematics, Integrated Science or Social Studies and three must be in relevant electives.

         For purposes of admission, a credit pass in :
           i. WASSCE means A1 – C6
           ii. SSSCE means A – D

B.  Holders of the General Certificate of Education (GCE) Advanced Level (obtained not more than three years ago) must in addition to credit passes in five (5) GCE ‘O’ Level subjects (including English and Mathematics), have, at least, two (2) passes in the relevant subjects.

C.  Applicants with the General Business Certificate Examination (GBCE) results should have credit passes (A-D) in six (6) subjects comprising three (3) core subjects including Eglish Language and Mathematics plus three (3) relevant elective subjects.

D. Holders of the International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE)/International Baccalaureate (IB) must possess at least Grades A*/A-C in English, Mathematics and Biology at the Standard (SL)/’O’ Level, in addition to three Higher Level (HL – A to C)/’A’ Level (A to D)/IB 2 (A to C) grades in the relevant subjects.

Applicants are required to read specific Departmental/programme requirements contained in the Admission Brochure before completing the online application.

4.         FEE-PAYING APPLICANTS
Fee-paying facilities are available for candidates/applicants who are unable to meet the competitive cut-off points determined by the Joint Admissions Committee.

Applicants who wish to be considered may complete and attach the fee-paying forms (available at the sale centres or downloaded from the university’s admissions portal) to their printed online application forms.  Such candidates shall be required to meet the minimum admission requirements.  Copies of last year’s cut-off points for the various programmes are available at the sale centres and the University’s website for applicants’ guidance.

5.         SCHOOL OF MEDICAL SCIENCES
Applicants who are applying into School of Medical Sciences should note that the programme is strictly fee-paying.

6.         PRACTICAL EXAMINATIONS FOR B.ED (PHYSICAL EDUCATION) CANDIDATES
SSSCE/WASSCE candidates applying for B.Ed (Physical Education) should note that the date for the practical examinations would be announced later.

 7.         SUBMISSION OF COPIES OF COMPLETED APPLICATION FORMS
(a)  Copies of completed online application forms accompanied by copies of results slips should be sent by POST and NOT delivered by hand.

 Copies of the completed online application forms should reach the Deputy Registrar, Division of Academic Affairs (DAA), University of Cape Coast not later than Wednesday, 30th April, 2014.
                       
 Applicants are to ensure that application forms are posted early enough to be received before the deadline for submission as forms received after the deadline will not be processed.                       
                       
(b)  No additional documents will be accepted after submission of completed application forms.  Applicants are to note that only photocopies of certificates or result slips should accompany completed application forms.  Original certificates/result slips of applicants offered admission will be inspected before registration. The documents accompanying the application forms are not returnable.

(c)   Application forms received without Application Reference Numbers, WASSCE/SSSCE results slips or transcripts, in the case of Post Diploma and other applicants, will not be processed.

A change of programme after the submission of application forms will NOT be allowed.
