UCC Establishes More Businesses to Boost IGF

The University of Cape Coast (UCC) has inaugurated three business ventures as part of efforts to generate more income for the institution.

The businesses are the production of sachet and bottled water, a restaurant and a shuttle station to serve the university community and beyond.

They add to the already existing business ventures which include a filling station and detergent production unit being manned under the University of Cape Coast Enterprise Limited.

The shuttle station, an initiative by the Student Representative Council (SRC) and management, started three years ago as a result of the absence of an organised bus station.

Speaking at separate inaugurations, the outgoing Vice Chancellor of the university, Professor D.D. Kuupole, said the establishment of the businesses had become necessary due to the dwindling subvention the university receives from the central government.

The university must tap from its knowledge to support itself, he said, and called for the collaborative efforts of all stakeholders to move the university forward by working to sustain the business ventures.

Professor Marfo Yiadom, Chairman of the Income Generating Committee, said some of the business enterprises would serve as practical laboratory for students in the business and sciences sector.
