UCC Parliament To Get Shade

UCC House of Parliament has appealed to the SRC President, David Boakye and his administration to come to the aid of the House with a provision of shade.

This comes at the backdrop that the tree which normally provides members with shade has almost lost all its leaves, leaving Members of Parliament in scorching sun whenever the House sits for parliamentary proceedings.

The House made this appeal when the SRC President called on them on Thursday, 30th October, 2013, as part of an inspection tour he was undertaking to see progress of work in some Lecture Theatures.

Speaking to the House, the SRC President maintained that his administration was poised to fight for the welfare students and since the House of Parliament forms one of the strong student institution which inform students on many issues on campus and also helps young politicians sharpen their debating skills, his administration was ready to provide the House with a shade that would provide conducive environment for students.

The SRC President further added that his administration is almost through with the procurement of a plant to supply FELT with lights in the event of power blackout.

“I am very happy say that one key manifesto promise that I made to students was to provide them with an alternative power source at FELT and I must say that we are almost through with it and very soon students will see results,” he opined.

The speaker of the House, Katako Francis Keneth on his behalf thanked the SRC  President for making time out of his busy schedule to grace the House, but urged him to walk the talk, maintaining that the House would rally behind him to achieve all his manifesto promises he made to students

The majority bench led by Ernest Opoku Nti and the minority bench led by Bikinteeb Nanang all wished the President well and promised that they would use the House as an instrument of explaining issues that are of relevant to the student body.

The House then adjourned sitting to Thursday, October, 31, with the speaker hinting that the house would host the Local NUGS President in their next sitting.
