UCC Swears in New SRC/LNUGS Executives

 

The University of Cape Coast(UCC) on Tuesday swore in the new SRC/LNUGS executives to steer affairs of the school for the 2016/17 academic year.

The SRC/LNUGS executives,who took the oath of office, included Mr.Dennis Appiah Larbi-Ampofo,president; Miss Priscilla Asuming, vice-president; Dorinda Bruce Acquah,Secretary; Dennis Nana Asare,treasurer; Godwin Asamoah Mensah,sports secretary; Elvera Mawufemor Wagba,coordinating secretary and Felix Amihere,SRC PRO.

The rest are Albert Awortwie Sagoe,L/NUGS president;Welhemina Bofla, NUGS secretary and Josephine Aidoo,NUGS women commissioner.

Speaking at the handover and induction ceremony, Mr.John Kofi Nyan,Registrar, UCC,praised the outgone executives for their hardwork and commitment during their tenure.

He said that the previous administration had been development-oriented,action-oriented and result-oriented,adding that” they have been good partners in the management and governance of the university.

He called on the new executives to demonstrate honest leadership, calling on them to be active partners in the governance and running of the university.

He urged the general student body to support the new officers in the discharge of their mandate.

“Support them to really work hard in the best interest of students in particular and the university as a whole”,Mr. Nyan told the students at the Auditorium 900.

Prof.Kwaow Edjah,Dean of Students, lauded the past adminstration for instituting the Students’ Welfare Assistance Fund to support genuine needy students.

He decried the rising spate of bad attitude of thievery and stealing by a section of students on campus.

He recommended that the next SRC Thanksgiving Service should be dedicated for only prayers to eradicate the scourge of thievery on campus.

“This is something that together, [at] the next thanksgiving service, we need to pray so that our students’ front will be clean of some of these mess”, Prof Edjah said this in his remarks which made the students burst out laughing.

In his address,the former SRC President,Mr. Francis Arthur,who has been in office for 23 months,expressed gratitude to the students for giving him the chance to serve them.

He called on the new officers to diligently serve as servants who would not lord it over their subordinates but rather dedicate themselves wholly to the service and welfare of the entire student body.

In his inaugural speech,Mr.Dennis Ampofo, SRC president, expressed appreciation to the students for the confidence and trust reposed in him and promised to work hard to consolidate the gains chalked by the erstwhile executives.

He observed that the era of Team Dennis,Team Democrat,Team Sosi and Team Steward was over,noting that the only team students had now was Team UCC.

“Team Dennis is over,Team Democrat is over,Team Steward is over and Team Sosi is a thing of the past.At this juncture,we have only Team UCC,” he told the audience,who included his parents,Mr. and Mrs Larbi-Ampofo.

Present during the ceremony were Mr.Francis Bediako,Oguaa Hall master; Major Kofi Baah-Bentum (retd), Head of Public Relations, UCC;Mr.Eric Boro,Vice Dean of students; Rt.Hon Tunde Awosika,UCC House Speaker; Rt Hon. Emmanuel Acheampong, former House Speaker,Isaac Kojo Mensah and Albert Nuakoh,both former SRC presidential candidates and George Sarfo,a former ATL Hall president.
