UCC Witnesses Launch of OYAA

The Outstanding Young Africans Awards (OYAA), an initiative that seeks to encourage creativity, innovation and potential development among African students, have officially been launched on Saturday, February 11, 2017 at the College of Education Studies Lecture Theatre (CESLT), Auditorium 900.

Speaking at the launch, the Host of the Awards, Mr. Desmond Edem Eklu, a Level 300 Bed. Accounting student of the University of Cape Coast, encouraged all tertiary students to be participatory and supportive. 

“Let’s all embrace creativity. Let’s support young people because they are the future of our nation. We humbly call on all tertiary institutions, government and industry to come on board and support this initiative”, he said.

He further presented the various categories of the awards as follows:

*OUTSTANDING STUDENT LEADER OF THE YEAR

*OUTSTANDING SOCIAL ENTERPRISE OF THE YEAR

*OUTSTANDING STUDENT RADIO PERSONALITY OF THE YEAR (M/F)

*OUTSTANDING STUDENT TV PERSONALITY OF THE YEAR (M/F)

*OUTSTANDING STUDENT ACTOR/ACTRESS

*OUTSTANDING STUDENT FILMMAKER OF THE YEAR

*OUTSTANDING STUDENT AUTHOR OF THE YEAR

*OUTSTANDING STUDENT POET OF THE YEAR

*OUTSTANDING STUDENT ENTREPRENEUR OF THE YEAR (M/F)

*OUTSTANDING STUDENT PERSONALITY IN SPORTS (M/F)

*OUTSTANDING STUDENT PERSONALITY IN AGRIBUSINESS 

*OUTSTANDING STUDENT BLOGGER OF THE YEAR

*OUTSTANDING STUDENT GRAPHIC DESIGNER OF THE YEAR

*OUTSTANDING STUDENT FASHION DESIGNER OF THE YEAR

*OUTSTANDING STUDENT COMEDIAN OF THE YEAR

*OUTSTANDING STUDENT IN TECHNOLOGY 

*MOST INNOVATIVE CAMPUS BUSINESS OF THE YEAR

*OUTSTANDING PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT CONFERENCE OF THE YEAR

The programme, under the theme, “The Role of Students in Reducing Graduate Unemployment” was chaired by the SRC President of the University of Cape Coast, Mr. Dennis Appiah Ampofo Larbi who expressed his excitement at the bold step taken by the organizers of the event and encouraged students to learn from it.

Nominations open on 1st March, 2017 and all applicants must be of African descent and a student at any tertiary institution.

The launch was graced by the the founder of the Premium Clinic, Dr. Isaac Newman Arthur; the SRC Secretary, Miss Esi Dorinda; SRC PRO , Mr. Felix Amihere; the SRC Hostel president, Mr. Dennis Darko;  University of Education, Winneba’s NUGs Women’s Commissioner; among many others.
