He was christened as a great force to reckon with and was tipped by many pundits as the next local NUGS president in the University of Cape Coast.
But at the dying embers to close of nominations, his supporters had the shock of their lives when rumours started trickling in that Barack Dodoo, well known as ‘The Crusader,’ had stepped down from the race.
In release copied to choicism.com, the former local NUGS presidency contender have been explaining reasons why he could not run for the elections.
Below is the full content of his statement.
IMMEDIATE PRESS RELEASE
We plan our lives according to a dream that came to us in our childhood, and we find that life alters our plans.
And yet,at the end, from a rare height, we also see that our dream was our fate. It’s just that providence has other ideas as to how we would get there. Destiny plans a different route or turns the dream around as if it were a riddle and fulfil the dream in ways we couldn’t have expected.
Thank you for your kindness love ones. This is not a speech I wanted to give today because I believe that UCC need a revolutionary student leader. I still do, but the almighty God may have other plans that is why am no more in this race.
I Barack Dodoo(The Crusader) picked my nomination form on the 9th March, 2016 to contest for the position of the local nugs presidency but I couldn’t submit it on the 10th and 11th because I left my school fees pay-in-slip at home which was one of the basic requirements. I got it on Friday evening and as a member of the university of cape coast students’ house of parliament(UCCHP), I was part of the UCCHP debate team that attended the commonwealth inter-university debate competition which was organized by the parliament of the Republic of Ghana for students’ parliament houses at Accra international conference centre.
In view of this, I could not submit it on Monday(14/3/2016) personally which was the deadline for submission. So, I gave it out to my close allay to submit on my behalf since proxy submission was allowed.
Unfortunately, due to some reasons, he failed to submit it on Monday. Despite selflessly dedicating my time and energy to the UCCHP on the ticket of UCC to win a silver medal for the school, they could not be charitable enough to accept my nomination forms.
All attempts to get them accept it proved futile. Although I take absolute and total responsibility for what happened, it is my service for the university that has caused me my many months of campaign and my quest to be the next Local Nugs president.
But I believe sometimes, one should be the leader people would follow voluntarily even if you had no title or position.
I want to thank those people who run my campaign. It was the most united, cohesive and enjoyable campaign I’ve ever been involved in although it was short lived. You supported me with your kind words and inspiration. Counsel me on political strategies, Cheer me on when I was down.
I also want to use this opportunity to thank the incredible “TEAM” of the crusader, activists, and all those loving people who’ve pounded the halls , hostels, lecture theatres over the past months.
But we’re not losers until we are defeated at the polls. And our cause continue to reign. For it is our cause to tackle injustice in any form, against students where and when we see it. It is my believe that, any system that turns a blind eye to injustice and despair is not a justice system.
That cause will always be my fight and I will always be there in that cause with all of you.
Hopefully, I will come your way again, more prepared, more determined and more focused. I pray you find it in your hearts to accept me.
Thank you
