A send off and Long Service Awards Ceremony has been organized for the 2016 retirees of the University of Cape Coast (UCC).
The ceremony which is an annual event organised by the university, recognises and appreciates staff who have worked for the university and are due retirement.
70 staff members of the university retired. The breakdown are; 20 senior members, 31 senior staff and 19 junior staff members.
In a response by the formal Provost of the College of Humanities Studies and Legal Studies, Prof. Kendie on behalf of a retiree, the outgoing Vice-Chancellor (VC) of the University of Cape Coast (UCC), Prof. D. D. Kuupole, he expressed gratitude to the the management of the the university for giving them the opportunity to serve the university.
“To the university management, I would like to express our appreciation for the opportunity given to us,” he said.
The Vice-Chancellor’s response which was on behalf of the 2016 retirees also touched on the current status of the retirees being attributed to the favourable conditions offered to them by the university.
“The university through various initiatives over the years have created a conducive environment for us to build up our careers and our families,” the professor indicated.
The Pro Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof. George K. T. Oduro, who chaired the event thanked the retirees for their humble service to the university’s development.
The Pro VC called for the formation of an association for the retirees to help create a relationship between the university and the retirees.
“At times it is painful to know that immediately retirees are given their certificates and awards and they leave the university, that is all. Creation of an association will help unite the university and her retirees,” Prof Oduro said.
He again advised the workers present at the event to be hardworking so they can help build and develop the university.
Some members of the university council were present at the event which came off on the Tuesday, 27th September, 2016 at the university’s New Examination Center (NEC)
Citations and awards including home appliances and furniture were given to retirees.
