Team Dr. Eugene Darteh has been crown winners in the 4th edition of the Dean’s Debate Championship organized by the University Cape Coast (UCC) Debate Society.
The team, made up of Mr. William Gyamfi a level 400 Psychology student and Mr. Emmanuel Nwanwa Mensah a level 300 B.Com student, scored 78.5 point by the adjudicators, after they debated on the motion, “This house will apply universal jurisdiction to hit speech crime”.
Team Dr. Eugene Darteh with their submission, delivered a spirited performance, which helped them beat their opponents namely, team Professor Kwao Edjah, Team Professor L.K. Owusu Ansah and Team Sir Sam Jonah after a round of heated debate.
The president of the Debate Society, Mr. Caleb Otabil, during his speech indicated that the Championship is part of their preparation for the upcoming Ghana University Debate Championship which will be held in Tamale in August this year.
Other awards went to the top three public speakers for public speaking Competition. First place went to Mr. Charles Sarkodie, second place was Mr. Latif Lawrence Jorhowie and the third position went to Mr. Jeffrey Koomson.
For the best speakers for the Championship, the best went to Mr. Samuel Pinkrah, second best went to Mr. Mylo Dadzie and the third best speaker for the championship went to Mr. Latif Lawrence Jorhowie. Best Adjudication went to Mr. Caleb Otabil and th second best went to Mrs. Sarah Taikyi.
The Deans Debate championship which is a major annual event by the UCC debate society this year was dedicated to some key personalities in the University of Cape coast hence various teams were named after these key personalities of the University of Cape coast.
