Speaking at the brief ceremony, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Ghartey Ampiah said the facility will go a long way to fulfill the mission of the institute which is to promote education and cultural exchanges between China and Ghana in order to strengthen the existing friendship and promote cultural exchanges between the two countries.
The Ghana Director of the Confucius Institute, UCC, Prof. Ishmael Mensah speaking to ATL FM News said the facility brings a number of benefits to students of the institute.
“As an institute, our main mandate is to train people in the Chinese language. To study a language, you need a laboratory because in terms of the phonetics, interpretation you have to get it right. So for us this facility is going to enhance the teaching of the Chinese language. Now this centre has state of the art facilities for training and additionally it is going to afford our students the opportunity to write the Chinese proficiency exam. Hitherto they were going to Legon to write the exams so with this facility, they can write the exam locally. So for us, it is a major boost to what we do over here”.
