The School of Business of the University of Cape Coast has awarded three hundred and eight (308) students at this year’s Dean’s Awards ceremony. The event which was the 10th edition saw students rewarded for their academic excellence.
The Dean’s award recognizes and honors students who excel at the end of the academic year by obtaining an average CGPA of 3.6 and above.
The awardees were from level 100 to 400 studying various programmes at the school. Out of the number, one hundred seventy six (176) are studying BCom Accounting, Fifty (52) BCom Finance and fourteen (14) BCom Human Resource Management. The rest are thirty nine (39) students studying BCom Management, twelve (12) from BCom Marketing and fifteen (15) BCom Procurement and Supply Chain.
The guest speaker, Mr. Felix Quaicoe, a renowned banker, coached the students on vital life lessons that when adopted would shape their lives. He advised them to persist in their quest for success.
“The reality is that failure is part of human life, and so if you fail, it is not the end of the world for you. In your various fields of endeavor you will encounter failure, but that shouldn’t stop you from pursuing your dream to realize success. You need to make sacrifice.’
On his part, the Dean of the School of Business, Prof. John Gati Gatsi noted that the school is putting measures in place to identify and develop entrepreneurial skills of students in addition to what they are already offering to shape them for the job market.
According to him, the motivation is simply to recognize “our high performing students and award them so that they can keep the momentum.” He added that it would also create opportunities for other students to be empowered to work harder to achieve their aim.
‘The important thing is that professional bodies have come to support us. We are not only looking at high performing students with respect to their CGPAs within the level of first class, we are also looking at developing their skills and attitudes that will meet the demand of the job market which is changing very fast.”
Awards received included certificates, cash prizes, scholarships, and books. These were support from Institute of Charted Accountants, Ghana (ICAG), and the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA).
