Network of Budding Psychologists (NetBups), a new association that espouses to fine tune psychology to reflect the African setting has been launched at the University of Cape Coast.
The association which was launched on Saturday, March, 8, 2014 at the forecourt of the Faculty of Arts was founded by David Banaale, a level 400 psychology student.
Doubling as the patron of the association and the chairman of the launch, Dr. Kofi Krafona, a lecturer in the Department of Psychology, admonished students to take extra-curricular activities seriously, stressing that “the ever increasing job market require graduates to develop themselves holistically in both lecture room work and leadership positions”.
Dr. Kofi Krafona also lectured participants on how to write a good Curriculum Vitae (CV) as well as how to write proposal.
The founder of the association, David Banaale, recounted how he defied all conventional notions to get himself formally educated even when his parents insisted as the elderly among his siblings, he help in grazing cattle.
Explaining what motivated him to come up with such an association, David said that as a student of psychology, it always sounded absurd when all books on psychology studied in our universities are base on theories that were experimented using western societies and their culture, which does not reflect on the African setting and therefore it is about time young psychologies in Africa came up with theories and experiments that is in tune with the African setting.
Others speakers also included Mrs. Silvia Ocansey, a lecturer in the Department of Psychology.
There were also poetry recitals from Geshon Boakye, a biological science student and Nyamekye Givani.
New executives who have been elected to steer the affairs of the association were also unveiled.
