Dr. Elizabeth Quagila, a lecturer at the Department of Computer Science of the University of Cape Coast has revealed that eighty percent of jobs are not advertised and therefore the only way for job-seekers to get such jobs is through networking.
She made this known on Saturday, March, 29, 2014 at a seminar organized by the Local NUGS, UCC, in collaboration with the Counseling Centre of UCC at the Auditorium 900.
Speaking on the topic, ”How to network effectively on the job market”, Dr. Quagila maintained that the job structure in today’s globally competitive environment can be likened to the iceberg, that only the tip can be seen and therefore there is the need for job-seekers to network with the right people in order to succeed.
The Human Resource (HR) Manager for Pro-Credit Bank, Mr. Shadrach Allen Koufie who spoke on the theme, “Preparing Students for the Real World”, took participants through the criteria employers look out for in potential employers such as evidence of achievement, ability to get along with people, creativity, communication skills, humility, integrity and interpersonal skills among others.
He also took participants through the rudiments of how to write a good CV and the ingredients often required in CV writing.
Dr. Linda Ford, Head of UCC Counseling Center, who chaired the function urged students to incorporate the values that would add value into their lives so that they would become successful in their chosen careers.
Arthur Tony Henry, the current Local NUGS president, on behalf of students, presented a citation to First Capital Plus Bank for their enormous contributions towards organizing this year’s fair.
Participants also had the opportunity to put up their names for internship opportunities as well as opportunity to do their national services at Pro-Credit Bank, First Capital Plus Bank, Coca-Cola Bottling Company and Uniliver Ghana Limited.
The programme was massively participated by SRC/Local NUGS Aspirants, the SRC President, newly elected Hall presidents and the general student body.
