The Ghana Muslim Students Association (GMSA) of the University of Cape Coast has officailly launched the “15th Annual Islamic Propagation Week Celebration” in a grand style with a call on Muslims to desist from committing crimes in the name of Jihad.
The annual event, seeks to showcase the doctrine of Islam to the university community both Muslims and non-Muslims alike.
This year’s event which was on the theme “Islam: The Solution to Contemporary Crises” begun with a clean-up exercise on the surrounding communities of the University of Cape Coast such as Amamoma and its environs.
This was followed by a donation to the Ankaful Maximum Security Prisons, and Saturday, February 14, 2014 was the day set aside for the official launching of the celebration which saw a large number of Muslims throng to the event.
Guest speaker for the event, Sheik Nasir Deen, CEO of Paragon Consult who spoke on the topic “Spiritual and Academic Excellence” took patrons on ways to develop ones intellectual competence emotionally, physically and spiritually.
He charged on Muslims to strive for piety because it was only through piety that one could develop his or her spiritual intellect, the nourishment for the soul.
Sheik Nasir Deen however bemoaned the wrong perception that Islam enjoins violence and declared “Allah has not given the license to anybody to protect Islam and nobody should bomb himself in the name of saving Islam”.
He donated books worth several cedis to the participants of the programme.
Chairperson of the launch, ACP Alhaji Iddi Lansah Seidu, Cantoments District Police Commander of the Ghana Police Service made a clarion call on Muslims to abide by the principles of the Holy Prophet Mohammed and desist from acts that go contrary to the laws of Ghana.
The GMSA President, Abdullah Alibaba opined that the association was committed to use all available resource at their disposal to project the image of Islam which has suffered a lot of wrongful connotation in this contemporary.
The patron of the GMSA Alhaji Adam Ibrahim of the College of Agriculture and Natural Sciences officially launched the “15th Islamic Propagation Week Celebration” for the 2014/ 2015 academic year and called on GMSA members to celebrate the event within the tenets of the laws of the university.
