The government has approved the amount of GHC559 to be paid as monthly allowance to National Service personnel.
In a statement issued by the National Service Secretariat (NSS) on Thursday, 30th March, 2017, management of the scheme stated that the approved amount takes effect from 1st April, 2017.
According the acting NSS Executive Director, Mr. Ussif Mustapha, the increment should empower service personnel to be committed in the execution of their duties to the betterment of the country’s economy.
“Management wishes, therefore, to urge all national service personnel to reciprocate this gesture by further committing themselves to working even harder to support the government’s effort at improving the economy.”
Increment of the NSS allowance was done by the previous government, led by President John Mahama from an amount of Ghc350 to Ghc559.
Initially, the increased allowance was to take effect January this year, however as a result of its not being captured in the 2017 budget by the previous government, it could not take effect.
The NSS thus commended service personnel for their patience and continuous discussions with management with regard to the increment of the allowance.
“Management wishes also to express its gratitude to national service personnel for their patience and fruitful periodic engagements and discussions with Management on the subject matter.”
