An international higher education search engine and directory, 4ICU has ranked the University of Cape Coast the 93rd among the top 100 universities in Africa. The university has moved six places up compared to last year when it was ranked the 99th.
4 International Colleges & Universities (4ICU) is an international higher education search engine and directory reviewing accredited Universities and Colleges in the world. 4ICU includes 11,160 Colleges and Universities, ranked by web popularity, in 200 countries.
Despite UCC ranking behind the University of Ghana and Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology which placed 21st and 38th respectively, the positions are no indication of how much academic work is carried out in the various universities.
A statement on 4ICU’s website indicates the critera used in the ranking as a web popularity ranking. ” The current ranking is based upon an algorithm including five unbiased and independent web metrics extracted from three different search engines Google page rank, alexa traffic rank, majestic seo referring domains, majestic seo citation flow and majestic seo trust flow” the statement said.
“We do not claim – by any means – to rank organisations or their programs, by the quality of education or level of services provided. The 4icu.org University Web Ranking is not an academic ranking and should not be adopted as the main criteria for selecting a higher education organization where to study” the statement further clarified.
With 4ICU’s explanation, the university community will have to worry less about its academic standing but work hard to improve on its web popularity.
