The President of the University of Ghana branch of the University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG) Dr. Samuel Nkubaan says they are holding on to the strike till Government improves their service of conditions.
Speaking on News File this morning, he disclosed that the closure of the Universities depends on the management of the Universities.
“ The three weeks unwritten rule for Universities to shut down is to be decided by the management of the Universities, not UTAG. Academics should have started from January 17, 2022, so it means it’s left with one more week,” he said.
He again said that what can make UTAG resume to work is for Government to make up a difference of the 52% decrease of the 114% Basic Salary which they now do not receive.
‘Because comparing the current basic salary of 114% at that time, it has reduced,’ he added.
And after this, there will be progress for them to discuss a new labour market survey and a determination of the market premium.
