The General Assembly of University of Ghana’s Student Representative Council (SRC) has announced its withdrawal from the National Union of Ghana Students.
The unanimous decision to “recede from all activities of NUGS” was reached at the Assembly’s 3rd sitting held at the SRC Union Building on Friday, 9th November, 2018.
In a communique announcing their withdrawal from the mother body of all Ghanaian Students, UG-GA stated that NUGS has not proven itself worthy in representing the interests of all students in the country.
The statement further explained that “until a time when the leadership of NUGS deems it appropriate to operate the union on the principles and visions that gave way to its fruition, we shall have nothing to do with it.”
“We as an SRC do not recognize either factions of the Union therefore, any individual or group of people from the University of Ghana who do, do so at their own risk.
Until NUGS is fixed, the University of Ghana’s SRC is out.” the statement added.

The Leadership of the General Assembly of the University of Ghana Students Representative Council brings to the notice of all stakeholders and the general public of the decision of the SRC to secede from all activities of NUGS.
This decision was arrived at our 3rd General Assembly sitting held at the SRC Union building on Friday, 9th November, 2018 after a unanimous decision by the house in that regard.
This comes up at a time when all confidence in that one body meant to represent the interests of all students in the nation has not proven itself worthy of such a cause bearing in mind all the happenings over the years. Leadership is meant to be a solution to the numerous challenges of the people not the problem.
We want to state on authority that until a time when the leadership of NUGS deems it appropriate to operate the union on the principles and visions that gave way to its fruition, we shall have nothing to do with it.
We shall not partake in any of its activities, we shall not make any financial commitments whatsoever to any of its activities be it capitation, dues and any other commitments.
We as an SRC do not recognize either factions of the Union therefore, any individual or group of people from the University of Ghana who do, do so at their own risk.
Until NUGS is fixed, the University of Ghana’s SRC is out.
